ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has generated alert and dynamic changes in industries and companies worldwide, and in response to the adaptation process, new ways with technological innovation have achieved resilience, and new sectors have emerged without precedent, mainly in some Ecuadorian sectors to promote economic reactivation, increasing the demand for new services. The objective of the research is to assess the impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic on the sector of Professional, Technical and Administrative activities in Ecuador for the year 2020. The research is descriptive, explanatory, and bibliographic, with a mixed methodology and a non-experimental cross-sectional investigation, adapting a non-probabilistic sampling, analytical method, and statistical analysis of data series. Among the most relevant results is that the global Covid-19 pandemic produced growth in the sector mentioned before. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Artificial intelligence (AI) has entered tourism and become a new service in a tour guide. AI technology can help tourism by providing customized services and attracting visitors to fight with the crisis of the COVID-19 epidemic. This paper introduces how AI tour guide services contribute to tourism and its main issues. The future development of AI tour guides also was discussed at the end and the authors believe lifelong machine learning is the key to developing AI tour guides. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

University-industry R&D collaborations (UICs) are becoming more critical for discovering innovations that can lead to the development of new products, services, and processes and, more broadly, social impact in terms of employment, economic development, and public health. The Covid-19 pandemic, for example, has seen an unprecedented rise in UICs and illustrates how vital their success can be for positively impacting the collaborators involved and society at large. Several challenges face the successful execution of UICs, not the least of which is the cultural difference between the collaborators. Overcoming these challenges is the subject of several research initiatives that seek to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) that UIC consortiums can use to develop their internal capabilities and project management maturity. The challenges facing one large UIC have been studied in Portugal. Practitioners and researchers were involved in generating insights into how the UIC could be more effective. This paper presents some of these challenges facing the UIC and how they were addressed. It also offers early results into the CSFs deemed essential by researchers and practitioners based on their experience together over seven years. Top CSFs include senior management commitment, effective communication, stakeholder engagement, good leadership, clear and realistic goals, mutual trust and respect, interpersonal teamwork, and clear roles and responsibilities. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.
